Caught on film. . .

O.k., you are going to think this is a sketch or animation of a fantastical fish, but this is a photo -- the first ever -- of a Barreleye fish. Its head is transparent, as you can see. The eyes are not at the front of its cute face, but they are the green orbs inside its head; they detect predators in silhouette through its skin. Will wonders never cease?

  1. My dad loves to buy those crystals with embedded scenes, like the ones with falling snow. If he had an aquarium this would be his favorite fish for sure. Wait until James Cameron get a hold of this photo.

  2. That might be one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen, but he's somehow still adorable!
